First Love

This painting was done when I was 18 years old. It is painted on a canvas window blind and mounted on a hand-made stretcher. It is a representation of the future as I saw it upon learning of a hole in the ozone layer in 1988. The early reports of environmental damage caused by humans was considered unscientific at the time. The couple kissing on the bench are based on teh sculpture “The Kiss” by Auguste Rodin. The green smog rising is representative of the emissions from traffic, and the sewer grate. The sun is coming through the “hole” in the atmosphere and the buildings are melting. This painting is not for sale.
